Mouse or louse?

I have tried to get from Susan what type of machine DOS, Windoze she is

Macer. Too bad for her!

Hang in there! Mac will over come!!!

Yes, true, we all know Windows 95=Mac 1987 maybe someday they will catch
on to the fact that even with Windows its still not a Mac! the Mac
interface existed way before Bill Gates ripped off their OS…Dave

All right, you guys (and gals),

My PC is less than 6 months old and you are making me feel bad because I
didn’t get a Mac! The main reason was there were rumors of corporate
trouble or something at the time. Well, maybe I can get familiar with all
this high tech stuff on my little PC and go Mac in a few years.

But on the bright side, my PC has allowed me to glean info from others on
Orchid and some newsgroups…it can’t be all bad!

Thanks Cheryl, but I have tried that. It’s like the ball gets stuck
…I keep shaking and tapping it to “loosen” it up/drop it down…
I’d throw it except for that connector wire (well, and economic
sense (cents)) Can one buy a defective mouse do you suppose?

Susan; mice (mouses, meece??) don’t work well on a too-smooth surface. I’ve just had a birthday and one of my boys bought me a:-
“3M Precise Mousing Surface”
It works extremely well and much better than a bit of wet-suit type rubber which I have been using because I had the same trouble as you. If you are doing a tracing with the mouse (damn difficult!) I suggest you use a piece of draughting film with the rough side upwards over the master, Cheers,

Dave,
A fellow just gave me some Amiga equipment. All sorts of stuff here and
seems to be in fairly good shape.Don’t know how to hook it up but he
gave me an old 286 and alot of peripherial stuff.Wonder what to do with
it and now I see you seem to know some about it …help…Gavin

–G’day: I use an oldish souped-up Amiga 600 and find it excellent, especially for graphics. Sorry I can’t tell you how to set one up - I only use one: my computer-nerd son fixes everything for me - from a distance of about 100 miles! One of the things about Amiga is that you can operate more than one program at the same time. I can print whilst writing a letter, with a genealogy program in the back and only have to press AmigaM buttons to swap screens. At the same time my son had got into it to change things around from his home across the Cook Strait! Hope you get it fixed up.

Gavin: you might see if there’s an Amiga newsgroup and sell it off. Unless
you’re interested in getting into video animation or blowing money on a
different operating system its probably better to get rid of it. Can you
tell which Amiga it is? The Amiga 1000 was the first one and I didn’t keep
track after that. Amiga users would be able to tell you about it and maybe
someone will buy it off you. By the way, I got Action’s catalog today and
their controller only keeps the kiln at one temperature with a digital
readout. Damn, thought I was gonna save some money there. I’m going to
check the ceramics people and see if they use anything like a programmer
for their kilns. Dave

Thanks much John…sounds logical! I looked for something around the
house (like your wetsuit idea) but could only come up with a rug mat
…needless to say it wasn’t much help.

Gavin,

Usually. … you really can’t make a mistake… note that the ‘plugs’ are
narrow at the top, wider the bottom, shaped like a trapoziod(Had to reach
back for that one!!!)… On the small round ‘plugs’ there is of course a key
to guide it in…

In todays environment, a 286 will be somewhat limited depending on your
application and even then you will most likly require ‘old’ vesions of the
application because of the storage requirements…

However… can add storage to a 286 to at least 16 maybe 32 Meg… MAYbe ok
depending on Speed ie 50, 65 hz… don’t recall just how fast the 286s were
but certainly not over 80s. which suggest that you wouldn’t want to try to
move to Win '95(No one should, anyway…still to buggy, buggy… but don’t
get me started!)… would be fine for win 3.1 and email … with a good
fast modem… say 28.8(going higer as we spesk) and a respectable hard drive,
say a min of 100(should be a little larger really)Not a bad machine for
print server on LAN, for a small number of users… just gave one away as
well an wish I had keep it for playing around… home security( had a voice
board) etc would have been fun!

Bottom line … don’t put much $$$ in it … it just isn’t worth it today

.01 cents worth
