Moroccan south cross

I was recently in Morocco and saw a pendant that the shopkeeper told
me was a “South Cross”. She told me that the cross is typically given
to a child reaching puberty. The cross represents
North/South/East/West, and is meant to bring good fortune to the
wearer no matter what direction they choose in life.

I’m trying to find out more about the cross, and see a variety of
cross designs. Does anyone know more about the cross (even it’s
proper name, perhaps) or where I can find out more about them?

Thanks for your help. My need is a bit urgent, as I’m trying to make
a gift based on the cross concept for a graduating student.
