More on Unglueing Pearls

Over the years I have used several methods for removing pearls. The
first choice is the steamer. Heat the mounting up with a steamer and
many times the glue will soften just enough to pull the pearl. If
that doesn’t do the job I will hold the pearl with my fingers and
use my little torch to heat the piece. When I can start to smell
burning flesh I quench the piece. Your tolerance for pain will
determine how well this works for you, but if you are in a trade
shop enviornment and time is of the essence it works fast and is
safe for the pearl. Use caution if there are other gems present. The
next stage is Attack solvent.
