Deep into making things for Holiday Season… mostly ornaments. Right at the edge of what my Frankenmill can roll . I stumbled onto the idea of alcohol ink marhers for added spiffen things up.
Good work with the alcohol inks. What do you use to seal them when you are done?…Rob
They looks so fun! Now there is a downside to alcohol inks/markers…the reason they are called design markers/inks is that they were meant for reproduction purposes…meaning the color is NOT permanent and is extremely ephemeral. I’ve since learned the hard way, EVEN if the artwork(paper, fabric) is stored away from sunlight and carefully packaged….they WILL fade completely…sadly that’s the nature of these art tools So keep that in mind when using them…(I was so shocked when I pulled out old artwork and they had gone completely B&W…like where was the color!?!?!)
Hi,
very nice! i love the “embossed rounded nature” under the colors!

Input and direct experience say Krylon Kamar Varnish (spray can) in very light coat(s).
No 2nd treatment with a UV protectant for inside-living pieces, in my opinion.
Using pens/markers made these really easy.

That rounded effect is a result of how the metal gets pushed into the etched plates ,
ideally not bottoming out and filling the space completely, but only partially, which leaves the rounded effect. It’s not 100% consistent. My etched plates are not truly 3-dimensional dies.
It’s just the surface level and the etched level.
