Milk Glass and Photos

Someone whose name I missed recently posted what seemed like a
great setup for photos. He (or She) suggested placing the item to
be photographed inside a Milk Glass globe, light from outside,
and shoot thru the opening. Sounds so great that I’d like to try
it but I need some help.

1-What size subjects do you photgraph and what diameter globe do
you use ?

2- What do you use for a background?

3-How do you determine the correct exposure?

4-Do you shoot in color or black & white?

5- Do you have a preferred film?

6-Do you have a preferred Lamp type? Lamp placement?

7- Do you achieve highlights or is the lighting flat ?

Thanks for the idea and hopefully your response.
