Is their a quick way to determine the type of metal that is used
in a setting? If no stamp is there (14k 10k ss etc ) and it is
older do you need a crossection to see if it is plated or filled?
What alloys are used other than gold or silver?

Is their a quick way to determine the type of metal that is used
in a setting?
There are metal test kits, which I am currently looking into,
however, they cost $$$ and I think all of them require
destructive testing. If anyone knows of a really inexpensive one
that works, I’d love to know.
