Metal designs on top of gemstone

Hi Everyone,

I am new to jewellery making and I am fortunate to have found this
site.

I have two questions if anyone answers would appreciate it.

  1. I wish to know how they fix metal designs on top of the gemstone?
    Like a wire petal or a small flower or some stone work on top of the
    gemstone. Do they glue it?
