Making copper grapes

Thank you one and all for your suggestions and advice. The day after
I posted my question I was called out of town to deal with a family
situation and this is the first time I’ve had a chance to sit down
and read some of them. I can see that I have some serious
consideration to attend to. You folks are great.

I don’t recall which Orchidian was looking to create grapes for a
project. If that person reads this, last night I found candles in the
form of a bunch of grapes at my local 99cent store. With a little bit
of detailing, they might be just right for using as a base for
electroforming. Then, they could be melted out. They measure 12 cm
long by 9cm ‘diameter,’ and generally conical in shape I bought one
(I can afford to be a ‘sport’ for 99 cents) and I’ll snail mail it if
you’d like.

David,

I in the studio at school and was munching on green grapes. I found
one formation to be so unique, I wanted to make something from it.
With assistance, I created a mold and proceeded to melt a formidable
volume of silver and cast that work of Nature.

It turned out rather well, but far to heavy to be worn even around
the neck of a horse. Some of the tendrils may be used, but the
suggestively sensual grapes sit in my scrap silver box looking very
much as I imagine a DDD prothesis would look.

I also love the 99 cent stores.

What if you got the shapes you liked (not marbleish) by forming them
out of wax or chewing gum - different shapes and sizes. Add a largish
sprue at the top (for them later) and a small sprue at the bottom.
Make a mold of your gum grape. Open it up and coat the insides
(sprues too) with the condusctive base you’d use to electroplate an
insect or leaf. Close up the mold and plate enough copper on the
inside to hold its shape. Remove. When you have enough of these this
“grapes” you can hang a “bunch” of them on a wire and plate them to
the thickness of your choice.

Turn the big sprue into a stem and seal up the little one (this was
to drain out liquid) and hang them up.

Might work.
