[Looking4] Rose Cut Rubies

I had a job come in that is an antique band with a rose cut diamond
flanked by two, 2.5MM round, rose cut rubies. one was missing and the
other is very, very worn. the client is ok with replacing both rubies
but I need to replace with the same cut as the ring is not deep enough
to hold a stone with a pavilion.

I am having a hard time finding a wholesale vendor for these stones
so I was hoping one of you could help me out with a source. I’d
prefer to deal with somebody on Orchid, if possible.

Please e-mail me at @Gerald_Alexander_Liv with any

Thanks,
Jerry

Jerry,

Is it possible these were, or could be replaced by, rose cut pyrope
garnets. There is quite a bit of old Bohemian garnet work around and
it might be rather easy to salvage a pair of 2.5mm stones. The real
old pyrope has a very nice deep red color.

Just a thought.
Dr. Mac

Get some native cut rubies and set them upside down…

Please do not break up Victorian Pyrope Garnet jewelry to salvage
several inexpensive replacement stones.

This style of Victorian jewelry is very collectable and bring fairly
good prices in fine condition.

Contact a cutter on Orchid or your local gem and mineral club to
find someone to cut the stones you need.
