Looking for a stone ~ Elat, from Israel?

I have a customer that purchase a ring in Israel, and was told
that the stones in it are called “Elat” or “Elate”. It is a
green opaque stone with a mottled appearance, kind of like
Malachite.

I need to replace one of the stones, it was lost during
cleaning, thankfully not in my store.

If you have any info, let me know.

Ron the stones you are referring to are calloe Ellat stones they
come from; the area where king Solloman’s copper minds were.
they are a natueral formation of malacite, mlacanite. asurite
and chrisicola. I used t have some but I gave all my gems to
Habate for Humanity last year. If you can’t find them anywhere
let me know, I will be going back there on business in feb. I’ll
see if i can pick some up for you then. Vernon

I think you are takling about Eilat Stone mentioned by Vickie in
a recent post

Try Indian Jewelry Supply in Gallop NM. 1-800-545-6540. They
carry it as Azurite-Malachite E-mail me off list and I’ll send
the price list from the catalog. I am not sure of the origin of
the material, but I do know that it is found in the copper
bearing areas of AZ .

I’d like to see some of the Red Sea material if someone could
post a source, pref. in the US

If it weren’t for electricity we’d all be watching television by
candlelight.

Vernon - I hope you haven’t opened Pandora’s Box, but if you
have the inclination I also would like some of these stones when
you go back. Let me know if you are interested. From the
descriptions given, I think I’ve used these stones before in some
of my most favorite pieces. Thanks,

Nancy

I’ve used the Az/Mal cabs from IJS before. While they are
okay, I only use them in my lower end work. The polish is not
very good and I think they look reconstituted. I don’t believe
their Az/Mal cabs are the ones you might be looking for. I have
some beautiful AZ/Mal cabs from a local stone cutter that look
nothing like IJS’ cabs. I also have some cabs from the same
cutter that aren’t AZ/Mal, but contain the green, blue, and
turquoise colors mentioned elsewhere on this thread. I forgot
the name he told me they were. I also found some rough from an
estate sale that may be the Elliat stone.

Eilat stone comes from (King Solomon’s) copper mines on the Red
Sea and is defined in my reference as being a combination of
chrysocolla, turquoise, copper, and impurities. Hardness,
variable.

Nancy, I will do my best to look for you , I will not make any
promisses. I will be there on business, but not jewelry related.
I will be working with the christians in the area to set up and
create jobs for them. I don’t know how much time I will have or
exactly where I will be in the country yet. please forward your
stone request and I will try. Vernon

Vernon-

I have some rough that I think from your description is Elat
stone. I would like more of that, but only if you have time.
What you are going there for is far more important than some
stone for me. Let me know what you think the approximate cost
might be and I can send it. Thanks for the offer even if you end
up not having the time.

Nancy

@nbwidmer

Nancy I have no idea what the cost would be on the Elait stones.
I haven’t bought any in so long, I’ll try to pick some up while
I’m there I will atleast try to get a address that you can order
from. Vernon
