Leverback Interchangeables

I was at a show yesterday where one of my customers show me her 14kt
leverbacks. These were different from the ones I normally see in that
the loop for the dangle wasn’t a small loop soldered on the bottom but
rather an dip in the hinged part of the leverback. That way a person
could just buy 1 pr of 14kt wires and interchange a whole bunch of
dangle earring charms.

Does anybody know who manufactures these? I tried Lee’s Mfg which
was mentioned in a previous posting but they just carry the regular
leverbacks. TIA

Carol

Hoover and Strong carry these in 14kt. I think they refer to them
as “interchangable”. Just bought a couple doz myself. Regis

Carol, Both Rio Grande (800-545-6566) and Stuller (800-877-7777) carry
the interchangeable leverback earrings.

I’d love to know how to MAKE them, as all of the leverbacks I have
found are very flimsy (sterling, I haven’t looked for gold yet), and
are not made as well as those I have found on earrings I have
purchased. Some of you have mentioned companies, such as Stuller, who
sell findings, but I am just starting out and do not have the
references that they require just to get a catalog.

Hello Carol,

Stullers carries them in 14KY as item # 2946. They work fine, but
are pretty small. A person with failing eyesight or arthritis might
have difficulties with changing dangles. I think I saw them in Rio
Grande’s recent catalogue also. Judy in Kansas - where the heat wave

Hello Gail Middleton,

I’ve repaired one (and only one) leverback. That convinced me that I
wouldn’t want to try to make them. Getting that little piece of
spring steel in place required my microscope and lots of patience.
It was like eating a raw oyster - you have to do it once, so that you
can say you have, and then you never have to do it again!

Check out Fire Mountain Gems in Oregon. They will sell findings to
you and have a more sturdy sterling leverback than others I’ve seen.
