Karat rolling mill info?

Folks, I have a possibility of buying a used Karat rolling mill from
a retiring jeweler. He says it’s been used only once (purchased in
March 2000), but he has none of the docs or anything on it. He
describes it as the flat wheels being 75 mm / 3", with gear
reduction, and that there are additional wheels, one with a "knurl"
pattern (his word) and one with 2 different patterns on it.

I’ve spent a couple of hours searching the web to find specs on a
Karat mill that might match this one to see what the “new” sales
price is on it (he’s asking $200), and to get an idea of its
capabilities. No luck. I can’t find a Karat site, and can’t find
anywhere online that stocks them and has online descriptions.

Can any of you either tell me anything about this mill or point me
to a resource for reading up on the Karat mills? I’ve read the
Orchid archives and have found just some anecdotal things about
Karat owners, but not any links to info about the mills.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hi Karen, You might try ringtools.com. That’ll get you 46 St Jewelry
Supply in NYC. It’s owned by Kenneth Singh the mfgr (I think) of the
KARAT mill.

I’ve had a Karat mill for a couple of years & have had no problems
with it. It’s done what I asked it to do. In my estimation, you can’t
go wrong at the price they’re sold for.

Hello Karen,

Can any of you either tell me anything about this mill or
point me to a resource for reading up on the Karat mills?

Suzanne Boschen can tell you about the mill and Kenneth Singh has a
website with accessories and prices. Hopefully they’ll jump in
here. If not, access them through their postings in the Orchid
archives. Judy in Kansas

Here’s a couple sources. I’ve seen this mill in a couple variants,
notibly withour without a guard around the large gear wheel, but so
far as I can tell, all of these are essentially similar.

Contenti’s listing doesn’t call them Karat mills, but I think
they’re essentially the same.

This listing shows a couple models, plus a range of optional pattern
wire and bracelet wire rolls for the mills, which are the Karat brand.
