Eric- I don’t do competitions. Don’t need to. Not interested in or
need your site either.

However, it might be useful if you had posted a link to the
competition with the rules and regulations as well as the cost of
entry. On the links you posted I only get ads for your site. Of
course I am a luddite so I may have missed something important.

Also announcing a competition on Oct 22nd and giving the artists
only one month to produce and ship three competition worthy pieces of
jewelry is rather short notice. Fine craftsmanship does take time.
Those of us who do only custom work don’t have a lot of inventory on
hand.

Maybe you jumped the gun with this announcement, but there’s nothing
about this competition on the Jewelspan site. Does it cost money to
apply? Do you give preference to Jewelspan jewelers?

Andrew Werby

Hi agree with Jo 100%

Those of us who do only custom work don’t have a lot of inventory on
hand.

My problem is keeping up the stock. At the moment there is a one
month wait before I can start a custom piece.

Xmas is coming and I am flat out making my original designs, usually
one off unique pieces. Already selling stock for Xmas presents.

I work in 18 kt and gems but by choice mostly work in sterling as I
like the metal. It is unique in colour and reflection.

If one understands silver, hello Jeffrey Herman, look up his page
this guy does, and bring out the qualities of the metal then a
uniquely beautiful piece can be made. Silver loves a high polished
curved surface.

Some think “real jewellery” is ONLY made from gold and precious gems
and requires fancy setting techniques. To them I have 3 names Torun
and Georg Jensen. Google them or try Lalique. These people worked in
both gold and silver and gems or semi-precious gems. Torun has
designs that are over 50 years old and still are in demand.

To Andrew good luck with your windfall we are all waiting to see
what you can do with the stones.

Paying to enter competitions seems like a con to me. Like craft
shows that charge hefty entrance fees for viewers.

The organiser has made a profit from the exhibitors already and now
wants an impulse buy price from the viewers.

Funny how the charity shows I do don’t charge viewers entrance fees
and are happy to make a good profit from exhibitors fees.

Be inspired
Richard
