Hello all,

I thought it might be interesting to add my take on art with human
remains…

I am a trained ceramicist recently addicted to metalsmithing and it
has long been my declaration that when I die I hope to be cremated by
being laid in a large bowl in an atmospheric kiln. With all the
strange chemicals and things I will have inhaled and absorbed by the
time I die I imagine the flashing will be quite spectacular!
::laugh::

I used to fire piece with all kinds of small animal carcasses and
there is an exquisit beauty to bones caught in glaze.

Thanks for listening!

Carbon is what is left after cremation.

no – the ash will be mostly calcium and phosphorus oxides… The
ashes are grayish white. carbon will be black in states other than
diamond … carbon all burns to carbon dioxide no ash.

Molly - sounds like an interesting experiment! Two questions
immediately came to mind: Did the cremated critters alter the colors
of your pottery or glazes? and What did your fellow potters think?!

Have you ever read “The Cat Who Saw Red” by Lillian Jackson Braun?
Might be right up your alley
