I’m compiling a list of educational resources for current and
prospective jewelry designers, and I would like to know where all of
you designers who subscribe to this list received your training? i.e.
What is your educational background as it relates to the field of
Jewelry Design?

I apprenticed with jeweler David Griego in Santa Fe, New Mexico in
the 70’s, and then a few years later attended the jewelry program at
Santa Ana College in Santa Ana, California (Orange County, Southern
California). I also attended that college’s Gemology Certificate
Program. I now teach jewelry techniques at the Irvine Fine Arts
Center, in Irvine, California, also in Orange County. There are
several other community colleges as well as universities in the
Southern California region that have jewelry programs (Cal State
Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach, Long Beach City College, Saddleback
Community College, Orange Coast Community College).
