Is using tourist gold flakes a flaky idea?

now is the time to buy some gold- its at a low not reached in about
a year. the junk in the bottles isn’t even leaf and is a milligram in
oil to magnify it- don’t waste your money. they sell a lot of that
junk on ebay-I personally had ebay crack down on the listings as it
was VERY misleading. it read like the person was getting a gram of
gold. it is .0001 but in the listing it was .01 big difference. in a
tenth and thousandth of a gram! The flakes are thinner than leaf
even. the " gem mines" in NC all sell the bottles so I had an
opportunity to do the experiment melting 5 down thinking i would get
uniform grains- NOT. even the amount in the bottles varies. the same
guy listing this on ebay sells the cardboard covered with gold leaf
that look like credit suisse 1/10th oz bars- again NOT! He was
ordered to remove them a couple of years ago. I don’t ordinaruily use
auction sites but needed some quickly delivered gold since I couldn’t
get my usual supplier as it was a friday and I had a rush order for a
set of bands. and 2/3 the fine gold necessary. So overnight got a
coin at less than spot from a buy it now seller. that’s when I
noticed the too-goo-to-be-true deals/rips on Ebay. so I wrote the FTC
and Ebay and the seller was "reprimanded’ yuo could say. same thing
happened a few years ago with a seller selling “foredom” items that
were made in china- they had to remove them too (Foredom was quite
interested and happy to know about the fraud)…It is fraud folks and
be good consumers- when you see something you know isn’t what it is
advertised to be, contact the real company being used and enlighten
them- it can not only benefit you in ensuring that the product you
expect is what you get warranted and jobs aren’t lost to an overseas
firm using a branded name to import fake goods, but rewards are nice
too when a manufacturer steps up and appreciates what you have done
for them! Foredom had no idea their name was being used by the
largest jeweller’s tool and supply vendor on ebay -fraudulently- the
vendor had to close their site for a week and rewrite their entire
catalogue. I’m betting some of you purchased stuff from this company
in the past if you shopped for tools, etc. on ebay. as every 3rd
listing is their product. one reason I no longer shop there. as for
the gold flake -in-oil bottles- spend the 67 bucks and buy a dwt of
the real stuff. from a reputable supplier! If you are really
desperate and want to work in 14 kt gold oddly wal-mart sells
16-18"gold chains that weigh almost nothing intended for kids for
9.99 or less when on sale frequently- melt about 10 down and forge
the ingot out and you’ll have about 18 grams of 14 kt to play with
(not troy weight).Still it’s enough to make sturdy clasps from or add
some fine gold to the mass and you can come up with a nice ingot of
18 or 22 kt depending on the weight you begin with and the amount of
24 kt you add. You will need a reliable recipe but that’s easy enough
to find. you can also change the colour or make even more white gold
with the addition of nickel (yuck) or other white metals. and you’ll
learn to raise (or lower if you had some use for 9-12 karat gold) the
karat in the small shop/studio with little more than a glazed
crucible and torch… rer
