Invisible Set Help

I have an account that has asked me to repair an earring missing a
couple of 1.5 mm invisible set stones. It looks like I’m going to
have to find someone to do the cutting of the stones, or somebody
that does enough work with invisible settings that they would have
stones that would work. If anybody on Orchid could do this work, or
steer me to someone that can I would greatly appreciate it. I try
to take care of the needs of my accounts whenever I can, even if I
have to get someone else to do the work. It helps to keep
everybody happy. Thanks! Rick Barnes rbarnez@aol.com

I can probably help you. I assume you’re talking about diamonds
(rubies and sapphires are also invisible-set.) I have a good friend
who grooves diamonds for invisible sets, so maybe I can supply the
stones if I have a clear idea of what’s required for matching
existing ones (shape, color, clarity etc.) If you’d prefer I can do
the whole job. The last would probably be best because matching
would be easier. Your choice. The fact that stones are missing
suggests the earring mounting itself may need repair.

We generally try to fine the manufacturer of the invisible set piece
and send it to them, they are generally more than happy to fix, size
or whatever. The risk of working on an invisible set is not worth
it to us. Good luck!
