I love beautiful things and for me the value is in the beauty
and “specialness” of the gems about which I am learning. I don’t
regard gems as investments or evidence of conspicuous consumption
but as representations of how much variety and beauty there is in
the physical world. I am struck with how many special minerals
come from every continent; no one place has a monoply on being
special.
