Introducing - Gail

Hello to all of you, I am new to this list and wanted to introduce
myself. Although I haven’t been on the bench for quite some time,
I’m hoping to get back to it very soon. I am a member of the
Society of Jewelry Historians, write reviews on jewelry books,
publish on historical and antique jewelry, and was a
silversmith/goldsmith for many years before. I am also a member of
JewelCollect, an online email forum that deals with many topics in
jewelry, though mainly costume jewelry collecting, selling,
hallmarks, history and so forth. If anyone would like information
on either of these groups, let me know. Now, if any of you can tell
me how to get the rust off all my old tools, I’d be much abliged!!

hi gail,

clove oil (expensive), wd-40, kerosene and coca cola (i’ve heard) with a
scotch-brite pad work well for me. one could use other abrasive wheels or
steel wool. if the rust is really bad some caustic stuff called naval jelly takes
it off, as well as your skin and nasal skin. light coatings of the first three items
will prevent rust.
