Intimidated by casting

Jelrus has induction melting in their casting machine. I don’t know
if they’re still in business. Not too long ago Otto Frei had a for
sale.

Hi all, and again thank you for you’re wise suggestions.

I actually started another thread seeking answers to what type of
base metals I could use to cast models, not realizing that people
were still replying to this thread. I like the suggestion of using
the alloys one would usually pair with pure gold - are these strong
enough on their own to withstand vulcanization once I cast a model
from them?

…and I too was told that one can not add Borax to an Electro-Melt
furnace. Could someone elaborate on the type of flux one uses with
the unit?

Another issue I was curious about was the fragility of the crucibles
for the furnace. I was told they break down after some time and can
actually crumble while being removed from with tongues, is this the
result of poor handling? Or just an unavoidable fact when using this
type of machine?

Yes, these will work just fine for you. They are kind of like 10K
gold, without the gold. They tarnish when left on the shelf, but I
have not seen them turn green. I have used them for rubber molds,
and they are fine for it.
