Hi guys. I know this has occasionally been brought up before, but I
find the problem getting worse. Some of your emails are coming
through completely unintelligibly due to a lack of proofreading and
spellchecking. This email is specifically NOT directed towards
people who use English as a second language. The fact that you can
speak in more than one tongue is always amazing to me and I don’t
find fault with some imperfections coming from you.
However, for the majority of Orchidians who do speak English as a
first language, it is critical (and not just on this forum but in
any business setting) that your language be at least moderately
correct. For those of you who use Outlook Express as your mail
program if you go to your “tools” tab, then go to “options” you will
find a tab for “spelling”. You can check off for the program to do a
spell-check before every email goes out. I’m sure that almost all
other mail programs have something similar. (For those of you who
purposely choose to ignore certain rules you can add them to your
acceptable list every time the program runs.)
I know that a lot of you like to rush through your email and don’t
think much about how it might appear, however let me warn you that
if your name is googled, your postings on Orchid will pop up (I know
this because I Google myself regularly). I don’t know about you, but
I would never want a customer of mine to read an email from me that
had multiple misspellings and grammatical errors. It displays either
a level of ignorance or laziness that is not compatible with a
professional demeanor. For those of you who may not yet be
professional in this field, you may be someday, and absolutely
everything you post on this forum is a matter of permanent public
record available to anyone who has the time to look. Please, please
turn on your spellchecking programs and let’s neaten up our look a
little. Thanks.
