Identifying a cabochon stone in an intricate silver setting

Hi all, I am no jeweller, but after much searching and asking I need
expert help. I have a ring which is set in 925 silver and has a dark
grey cab set stone. The stone seems to have an indistinct layer of
translucent at the top, like a moonstone(?). The setting is Asian
(similiar to a ‘princess’ ring. I will try to take a photo, but any clues?

Hi Julie

dark grey cab set stone. The stone seems to have an indistinct
layer of translucent at the top, like a moonstone

This is hard without a picture, but sounds like grey cat’s-eye,
which actually is fibreoptics colored grey. Hope this helps some.

Hi, I’m no expert on stones but how about labrodorite. It is a
lovely dark grey stone with a,greens and purple irridecsent look to
it. it usually gets matched with silver so… Just a thought, Tessa
