How to sprue when the whole ring has a pattern on the outside?

I have made a ring that emulates a wood design on the outside and I’d hate to sprue it on the outside and mess up my design. It’s just a simple ring. Nothing fancy but it has wood grain on the outside all around.

I once saw a video of someone taking sprue wax and making a V and then attaching it to the inside. Would something like that create a proper flow? I’d be casting maybe just 1 or 2 rings at a time.

I can’t seem to find the video anymore so, if anyone has a video similar, could you shoot it my way?
