How to shape round tubing into teardrop with a draw plate?

I just pulled some short pieces of sterling tubing through the drawplate and didn’t pay attention to length. I will say that I lost about a 1/2" every pull or so. I had to file a fair amount away for the tubing to fit past the hole and to get enough grip. Then that part would break off and I had to file more again.

Could you taper it in the square grooves of your rolling mill progressively smaller until you got to a point where it would fit into the draw plate?..Rob

I could do that, but Sharon doesn’t have a rolling mill. I was trying to give Sharon some hands on feedback. I probably won’t be pulling tubing through a drawplate again for the foreseeable future. It doesn’t come up for me very often.
