In my Indian jewelery techniques book it shows how to make
silver solder with one part silver to half brass. I am
wondering what grade of solder this makes, medium, hard, or
easy. And if it makes medium how would you make hard and easy
solder using this method. I’m going to make some granulated
solder this way…Dave

Okay, how about you do some work on this? Let’s assume 10g is
‘one part silver’ and 5g of 70/30 is ‘half apart brass’ (I
wouldn’t use any other brass), totalling 15g:
components g % total
fine silver Ag 10.0 66.7
Cu 3.5 23.3
Zn 1.5 10.0
TOTAL 15.0 100.0%
I suppose this would be called ‘666silver’ (with 10% zinc). Now
look up a reference like Oppi’s book, or the solder info of some
silver suppliers and see what’s similar to this.
