Help! teach 13 year olds?-What?

EIGHTEEN thirteen year olds at one time in a room full of
equipment they haven’t learned to handle safely yet? That 's a
challenge to the ingenuity of even an experienced teacher. The
kids may be as creative as the dickens, but they are at what is
probably the most unstable phase of their development and they tend
to exhibit pack behavior. With such a large group you’ll need
another pair of wise eyes in the room to make sure that someone
doesn’t lead a bunch of his peers into doing something stupid or
harmful. Of course, as they are interested in producing a creation,
they’ll most likely be very cooperative. The copper bracelet idea
is probably the simplest. A nice cuff with a hammered finish is
easy, and it gives them the opportunity to saw, file, texture and
polish in one lesson. Good luck.

Yup! And I’ll give it a shot. I do have there art teachere with
me, and prompted by others like you (here and in the ArtMetal List)
have managed to elist the help of 2 ‘senior’ students (ages 17 or
18) as extra TAs.

Weeel, yes, but actually copper twisted braclets are probably a
leetle passe nowadays, methinks, and I’ve been sticking to my idea
of a silver ring. Many (ArtMetal) suggested the band needn’t be
closed, in fact, if it’s left open there’s the soldering bit done
away with!

I’ll get them to hammer (steel punches, concrete, whatever) a
texture or design onto the flat silver, file, and form it up with a
wooden swage block. I’m also going to fit in a slide show! Two
clases, one hour each! I’ll be stomping. Happens Mar 12th. Wish me
luck, and do post any more suggestions, please.
