Hand engraving class?

#1

Hello Can you good people recomend a “top notch” hand engraving class
for me? Thankx Peace Karl

Dear Karl & All,

To really learn hand engraving takes much more than a weekend
workshop. If any one is REALLY interested in learning this lost art,
it is still an important part of the curriculum at the Pine Technical
College in northern Minnesota. It is taught in the Gunsmithing
program there. The engraving there is taught the old world way. The
instructor is also an expert hand engraver. Check out their wed site.

Best Regards,
Todd Hawkinson

The New Approach School has an engraving class about twice a year
for a week. http://www.newapproachschool.com

Alan Revere’s school in San Francisco has about 40 different
classes, can’t imagine engraving isn’t one of them

Contact GRS in Emporia, Kansas. They have regular classes from some
of the best hand engravers. http://www.grstools.com/

I took an excellent engraving class at the Revere Academy, about 3
years ago. I think it was in September of 2000. Check out their
website for more

I might make a tiny plug for myself here… I’ve been engraving for
just a little over 30 years now, and I am offering workshops from
basic to advanced platinum/gold/silver inlay. Using traditional hand
gravers, hammer & chisel, and now converting all benches to the
Lindsay Airgraver systems for those who prefer power assisted tools.

These workshops are INTENSIVE! 10 hour days. They are not designed
to make you a professional engraver over a weeks time - but will
give you a very very strong foundation for whichever of the
specialties within the engraving field you choose.

No one can teach you to be a competent hand engraver in the limited
time (5 or 6 days) we have for a modern day workshop. You have to
practice until you reach the next level, and then keep returning as
you advance over the years.
