Hammer Handpiece, Please Help!

I’m new to using a hammer handpiece and I recently decided to invest in a Badeco 222 duplex. I’ve used it a couple of times but I keep experiencing issues with it and I can’t seem to find any videos explaining how to use it.
Does anyone have experience with a fairly new model that would be willing to let me ask some questions? Or does anyone know of a good video tutorial or introduction to using this specific model? I’ve heard only positive things about this tool and since I’ve no prior experience, I’m not sure if it’s just me or the tool.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

What types of problems are you having?

what i tend to do is put my finger tip down along the hammer anvil, with my finger tip touching the bezel…it kind of stabilizes things…keeps the anvil positioning uniform too…

There’s a pile of videos on the internet on how to use a hammer handpiece. I’d recommend watching at least a few of them.

Here’s one from Melissa Muir.

One of the most important things to remember with a hammer handpiece on a flex shaft is that they can’t go fast. If you have an Foredom SR flex shaft for instance you’ll need to either be very disciplined with your foot control or get a table top controller (like Melissa recommends in her video). I have the Foredom LX flex shaft that I use with my hammer handpiece which is a slow speed, high torque flex shaft. That works with hammer handpieces as well.

The other thing that you can Google is hammer setting. A hammer handpiece can do many of the same things that you can do with a hammer and a setter’s punch.

I own the Foredom hammer handpiece, but at work we have the Badeco hammer handpiece. The Badeco handpiece is much stronger and I like it a lot. They both work similarly though. As far as I can tell, most if not all of the info in a Foredom hammer handpiece video will be relevant to a Badeco hammer handpiece.

One cool thing is that you can attach Foredom hammer handpiece tips to the Badeco hammer handpiece. Foredom sells a set of tips that are less expensive. As you get more experience then you can grind and adapt the tips to your needs.

I don’t know if you did this, but always take advantage of the forum search feature whenever you have a question. Chances are pretty good that if you have a question that someone else has asked something similar in the past decades.

Hope all of this helps! Congratulations on your new purchase. The Badeco hammer handpiece is an awesome tool!!

The tool keeps unthreading above and below the duplex spring when I’m using it. I reattached the spring and tried to tighten it and then the whole thing seized up.

I’ve also had issues with regulating the hammer pressure (before the spring unthreaded.) The adjustment wheel has a symbol in it that suggests turning it clockwise to change the pressure. Is the pressure oscillating or should I turn it counterclockwise to reduce the pressure. The tool came with a very vague sheet of instructions, and it was a big purchase for me so I’m concerned about damaging it. Thanks!

Thanks Jeff, this is all really helpful!
I tried the search feature yesterday with no avail- maybe I just didn’t use the right keywords?
Anyway, thanks for all of this useful info! I didn’t realize the Foredom and Badeco were so similar.

Did you buy this from a jewelry tool company? If so, I’d reach out to the jewelry tool company where you bought it and tell them what you’ve told us. If it does break for some reason, they should be in on taking some responsibility. They also should be able to answer any questions that you have.

I don’t want to scare you, but in full disclosure, when we bought our Badeco hammer handpiece, an internal part broke the very first time that I used it. I called the company where we bought it from and they replaced it n/c since it was brand new and under warranty. The one that they sent was missing the internal part where it connected to the flex shaft, so it wouldn’t work. It took three Badeco hammer hand pieces to get one that worked. This one has worked with no problems for over a year so that’s great!

I’ve never owned a flex shaft tool with a duplex spring, because they can be delicate. One thing I know is that you should do your best to keep the duplex spring fairly straight with just a slight bend.

I agree. A tool that’s so expensive should have a better owner’s manual.

Thanks for reaching out with specific questions!

Lots of folks in the forum have Badeco hammer handpieces, so let’s see what advice others give. I think once you get over the new tool learning curve you’re going to be really happy with it!

Ooo that’s good input, I’ll definitely reach out to the vendor. I returned the first one they sent because the bead on the hose clip was rusted and wouldn’t attach to the flex shaft, I just assumed that these new issues I’ve been experiencing were a “me problem.” :grimacing:

Thank you so much for your help Jeff- I really appreciate this community’s generosity with their wisdom- it’s invaluable!!
