"Green" jewelry sources

Hello everyone!

I’m interested in exploring “green” materials – recycled gold and
silver, ethically mined or fair trade metals and gems, etc.

Can anyone steer me towards general resources, suppliers and/or
jewelers in this niche?

Thanks!
Beth

Hi Beth,

Can anyone steer me towards general resources, suppliers and/or
jewelers in this niche?

That would be the oro verde programme from Columbia:

There was a recent Orchid thread about Hoover and Strong using 100%
recycled materials now (I think they call it EcoGold).

“Hoover and Strong’s Ecogold”

I don’t know the details on that, though. Off the top of my head,
Columbia Gem House sells with fair trade practices. They sell both
loose and mounted gems. Also look into Out of our Mines, which is a
small company that mines and cuts their own products.

I hope that helps,

My jewelry has been made exclusively from the certified green gold
and platinum from Oro Verde for several years now and I have been
very happy working with the folks there and with the metals.

I recently spoke to someone in the refining dept. at Hoover & Strong
and was told that I could order pretty much any mill or grain product
of theirs in sterling or in any of the karat golds and request that
they be 100% recycled content. So that can be another alternative.

Columbia Gem House in Washington state offers many gemstones -
calibrated and one of a kinds that are fair trade ( or varying
degrees thereof - and they will be happy provide details). I get
several queries a month from fellow jewelers for this kind of
I’m happy to share it and hope others will chime in here
with solutions they have found too.
