Regarding working long hours because one is greedy; I would
think that more often its a matter of survival. I don’t work
those really long hours any more, but I sure did in the beginning
and it wasn’t because I was greedy. In those early years I was
working for someone else and had to do what had to be done, no
matter how long it took. I had a young family and was learning my
craft at the same time. I felt a responsibility to both, often
competing. Then I went off on my own and was working long and
hard to build up a customer base large enough to support my
family and my employees families. Its hard for people to take
charge of their own lives, to say no, to find balance. I am very
sympathetic to those who work too long and sleep too little, it
can be very hard to avoid.
