A mundane question. Are coffee-stain type markings on a 9ct gold
ring tarnish? How do they come about? Will they buff off?

Lawrie, Some mundane answers:

  1. Yes

  2. 9K is only 3 parts gold to 5 parts alloy BY WEIGHT - a lot
    more alloy by volume -of course it’s going to tarnish

3 Yes - but they’ll be back
