Gold Plated Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

#1

Judging by the photos I’m guessing that it’s electro plated and most
likely painted to look like it’s plates bolted on. If those were
real bolted on plates there would be waaaay more than 40lbs of gold.
If it were gold leaf, the texture would be more crinkled. Any body
out there have a better guess?

I would guess gold printed on to mylar film and backed with PSA
film, then applied to the car as a sticker.

yeah…paint. They have made some great strides in automotive
paints. As just one example go to duplicolor.com There is a variety
that closely mimics anodized aluminum, available in colors, plus gold
and chrome paints too. Haven’t tried them myself yet though.

If you look closely you’ll see all the screw heads are oriented
towards2 o’clock, roughly. That sure implies a paint template to me.
Plus alignment of ‘plates’ is just too good, a car body is very
complex, fitment wise. look at the reflected highlights over the
curves of the fenders and front cowl, the reflection is seamless,
indicating a coating such as paint. Could it be plated? Well, maybe
but I doubt it. They’d need an enormous tank to plate a unibody,
even broken down into components.

Where would you be without gearheads?

If you want precious metal cars, then Audi have made 2 solid silver
bodied A4’s for a gentleman in Saudi Arabia.
