Gallery credit?

Hey, y’all,

My teapot piece, “Just My Cup Of Tea”, of the “flashy tea” thread,
has been requested for inclusion in an upcoming book on teapots. The
agreement from the publisher offers space for “gallery credit, if
any”. Can someone enlighten me as to my obligations and possible
benefits in this regard? The piece is currently at Mobilia gallery.
Does that mean I need to mention them? Is it to my advantage to do
so? Under what conditions does one give gallery credit? The piece
itself is not going anywhere for this agreement, just images.

Thanks for help–

Noel,

I suppose the reasons to credit a gallery could include these: the
gallery commissioned the work, the gallery will have the piece and
offer it for sale, the artist has such a notable relationship with
the gallery that it behooves the artist to support them any way they
can. If I had an important gallery relationship and/or didn’t think
it was likely that I would be able to sell the work by some other
venue, then perhaps it’s reasonable to acknowledge the gallery, if
for no other reason than it may help them sell the work. Of course
there could be some other reason, this is just what I could come up
with before the caffeine kicks in.
