I am an owner of an embroidery shop in Ocean City, Md. I have been
teaching myself jewelry making for the last 4 months, and started searching
the internet for any and all that I could find. I hope
to learn from this discussion group.

Cathy Ritchie

I’ve noticed several new people signing on recently who have an interest
in learning jewelry making. I’ll be glad to help in my own limited
capacity. I did a little teaching at the college level and have been in
the jewelry manufacturing trade since 1971. I specialize in original
one-of-a-kind creations as well as engraved metal molds and dies.

Great success to all of you learning this most difficult of all crafts,
jewelry making.

Hi Cathy, glad you are learning silversmithing. We have a write up on a chain
making project at tips from the jewelers bench
Learning Center - Ganoksin Jewelry Making Community this project is for begining
students in our class. Take a look at it and see if will be of any help to
you. Lloyd

Hi Jeffrey, It is great to know there are so many people out there ready to
help others. We make one of a kind jewelry and enjoy it, I like to make
chain and do granulation, my granulation is not the best but now after 2 1/2
years of working on it I can get aprox. 95 % of the beads to stay in place.
What is your specialty? Lloyd

Hi Lloyd

I’ve been specializing in two areas for the last few years. My main
business is the creation of custom settings for jyotish I
work almost exclusively in 18 and 22k gold, and platinum. My other
specialty is high precision mold and die engraving. I put details such
as fine lettering and graphics on the sides and tops of rings. A recent
job I’m working on is a phoenix rising from a crest surrounded by
enameled lettering, on the top of the ring. On the sides are numbers and
lettering. It will be a limited run of fifty rings. I do lettering in
sanskrit, hebrew, english, or anything I can get computer fonts for. I
also do scroll work and filigree. I’ve been considering adding
granulation to my learned skills, a friend who does granulation showed
me how, it certainly was simple watching him, although I’m sure it’s
harder than it looks. Good luck with your work!

Sincerely

Jeffrey Everett
