Fusing Jump Rings with Hot Spot Electric

I’m hoping to ask any Orchadians who use the Rio Grande Hot Spot
Electric Soldering Machine to fuse jump rings for some help. I just
recently purchased one and have been practicing with it to get the
settings correct for the difference gauge rings. However, more often
that not I’m either melting the ring (to high power) or they just
aren’t fusing. I’m practicing on 20 gauge 5mm Sterling Silver rings
(not the solder filled). If anyone can help I’d greatly appreciate
it.

Dear Janice,

I feel like such a heal for my late response! I have worked with the
Hot Spot extensively and helped rewrite the instructions. My
recommendation is to call me as I have helped many people over the
phone with this unit.

I do have one question though, you said “to fuse jump rings”, “20
gauge 5mm Sterling Silver rings”?? As far as I know fusing STERLING
is not possible with this machine, at least with much success.
Sterling must be soldered using paste solder, or the best, quickest
and cleanest method is to use solder filled jumprings. You don’t
have to spend time applying the past solder and there is almost no
cleanup work on the sterling solder filled JR’s.

Again I apologize for the tardy response.
