How important are the higher speeds on a Foredom? I am strongly
tempted to buy the “Flexade,” a flexible shaft that connects to a
bench grinder. It’s only $25 and I already have the grinder. The
main catch is that the Flexade is rated for 7500 rpm.

Correction–the Flexade can go up to 15,000rpm (I misread the
catalog listing). But my bench grinder can only go 3,450rpm. Is that
too slow for jewelry-making tasks?

Janet, I doubt that you bench grinder turns at 7500 rpm, more likely
3250 max rpm. Then you have to be able to vary the speed. A Foredom
operates over it’s whole speed range, which is one thing that makes
it such a useful tool. Joel
