I’d bet it would also be handy for sharpening welder electrodes.

I have a plastic adapter/collar that Kate Wolf designed, so I can
hold the Gordon handpiece in my Benchmark system. It allows me to
use the handpieceas a lathe. Kate designed it for lathe carving wax
blanks, and I also use it whenever I need to make a series of bezel
settings. I can hold the tubing, and easily cut a seat, set the
stone, burnish the settings, andcut them off very quickly and
uniformly.
