Flexible

PS. Does someone know of some sort of diamond rubberized
flexible mat that I can use with disc cement on an 8" or 6"
rubber flatting disc, about 3000 grit diamond for a pre polish.
They want the earth for preferal Nova wheels over here and they
wear out quickly on the edges with concave opal work. I usually
use the old 600 to 1200 wet and dry sandpaper for opal pre
polish. It gives excellent results but I am having problems with
overheating on some thin opal doublets and with sandpaper, you
really have to do some dry polishing to see what you’re doing.
And the old problem of polishing a flat surface on a flat disc
comes up with scratches still persisting in the centre of the
stone. Who supplies at a reasonable price?

thanks so much,

Peter

Peter,

At one time of my life I was living without electricity. I used
the following method for polishing Jade and Opal.

Glue a piece of thick suede leather to a flat stick ir thin
board, rough side out With your rusty.trusty pocket knife, shave
some ZAM buffing compound onto the leather. Using a dop stick,
rub the stone on the leather where you’ve shaved the ZAM. A few
strokes will give you a nice polish. No heat buildup with this
method
