I’ve had better luck scanning gems and small pieces of jewelry when I
drape a neutral gray or black piece of cloth over the item after I’ve
positioned it on the glass. I get truer colors and less flare. I
really prefer using black, but sometimes the item works better with
gray. I just use plain ol’ fabric from my sewing stash.
