Hi Sandra,

I’ve grown very fond of cones. You tie off the foxtail, tigertail
or whatever, to a loop on a section of ~18 ga. sterling wire that
fits inside the cone. Flame the plastic coating to fuse the knot and
slip the wire/knot into the cone. Then, with pliers, form a loop
around your clasp finding and wrap a few loops of the wire back down
to the cone to finish. A cup burr gives a nice smooth finish to the
end of the wire.

The Rio Grande catalog has a nice selection of sterling cones,
straight and curved, in a variety of sizes. If I I remember
correctly, it also illustrates this technique on the page of the
catalog.

All the best,

Dave
