I am thinking to buy Metal Techniques of Bronze Age Masters: Russian
Filigree an Instructional DVD for Metalsmiths by Victoria Lansford

http://www.victorialansford.com/filigreed.html

Opinions about it?

I haven’t seen Victoria’s DVD, but if you are interested in filigree,
I have a book out called Silver Threads, Making Wire Filigree
Jewelry. It has basic info followed by 12 step by step projects. It’s
published by Kalmbach. My filigree is based in the Norwegian filigree
technique (rather than Russian), but with a much more freeform style.
It’s widely available, and the list price is $22.95. (ISBN:

Victoria’s DVD is excellent - she is such a good instructor and
allows Q and A through a forum website. For me it was exactly what I
needed to create filigree - and I am a “baby jeweler”!

I may be a little biased, as one of my pieces is on her DVD in the
Gallery (Rhodochrosite ring), but I would highly recommend getting
her DVD if you’re interested in learning this beautiful technique. I
had the pleasure of learning from her in person, but the DVD is a
great way to learn from her, too, as she is a very good instructor,
no matter the venue. It is very well produced, and she gives clear
instructions for a variety of different applications of the filigree,
as well as tips along the way. Buy, learn and enjoy!

I agree, Victoria’s DVD on Russian Filigree is an excellent learning
experience. The production and pacing are very well done.

I am dismayed to hear that after all her hard work on this DVD that
a video rental business is ripping her off by renting out her DVD
without paying her the royalties for it’s repeated rental.

IMHO: don’t rent the DVD, because it’s well worth owning.
