Files I cannot find

I need small end joint files. I cannot find them anywhere. I need
sizes .08 mm and 1 mm. Does anyone know where I can get these files,
I am trying to make notches in jump rings. Any ideas of where to get
these files would be most appreciated.

The guitar makers supply company Stewart McDonald has them. They are

I would think LMI would have them as well. They will be referred to
as “nut files” (not a reference to the user I hope). I use them quit
a bit and one trick I will pass on is to make a saw cut where you
want your notch, it will help to keep the file from drifting to one
side or the other as you file.

All the best, Tim

I just use a very fine round needle file (Frederich Dick round
escapement file from Rio) and measure with my digital calipers at
the point where the file is the size I need and mark it with a
marker. I then file the notch taking care not to go past the mark on
the file. It has always worked for me and hopefully it will work for
you.

Good luck with your project.

Otto Frei carries full complement of joint files. Even if he does not
have it in stock, he can order it for you.
