Etching Obsidian

Janet - I’d try using something like beeswax and cold sodium
bisulfate pickle. Or even some oily substance. it was an accident,
etching the malachite - a helper dumped some finished pieces set with
malachite beads in the pickle. total loss. easier to remake than to
repair.

Ouch! That must have been a shock. But I guess we learn most from
our most horrendous mistakes! I still quite like the idea of an
etched design on a nice, large and shiny cab, though. I might have
to try it some time. on purpose - lol

Janet - the etching that I’ve seen recently wasn’t really etching, rather sand blasting - or garnet sand…The mask was simple sticky shelf paper.
