Estate jewelry advice

Hi All,

My brother-in-law is trying to settle an estate which includes maybe
7 or 8 pieces of good stuff. I haven’t seen it so can’t tell you
anything about it but he lives in between New York and Philadelphia
and the jewelry is currently in Tucson. Does anyone either buy
estate jewelry or know of someone in any of those cities that they
could recommend? Would you recommend that he get an independant
appraisal before trying to sell it? Any and all advice accepted
with gratitude.

Thanks,
betty Belmonte

Betty, an appraisal would be a good start, and it should be a ‘fair
market appraisal’ as opposed to an insurance replacement, but both
would be good to have on hand. I use McTeigue for estate buying, Their
in NYC 800 628 5250. Mention I referred you, as they are very nice
folks. I send an email photo to see if they’re interested, and if so,
send the piece(s). An easy way to distribute funds in estate and
family situations.

I know of someone who is north of NYC, has a shop which specialized
in estate jewelry and is a GG. Currently, she is the alumni
president of the NY city chapter of GIA. Her name is Merle S
Koblenz. I can not quickly locate her phone number but her email is
msk111@earthlink.net I believe she focused her studies on estate
jewelry after attending GIA. Hope that works for you.
