Enamel over plate?

Has anybody ever tried enameling over silver or gold plating ?

Don’t bother at the enameling temperature the thin plating will
diffuse into the parent metal.

You will lose the plating.

Yup

90% of the time I end up with a mess. I find it very unpredictable.
If I didn’t know any better I’d swear that the silver sublimates and
deposits elsewhere. It also seems to crawl around the copper at
will.

I found that I must keep temperatures really low; around 1350 degF.
That in turn presents problems with the flow of the glass.

So why bother? Because the 10% produce interesting and unpredicted
results that have a feel of spontaneity rather than being planned.

I used to do enameling over silver-plated steel – Worked quite well.

I think the silver plated steel that was used in this instance was
specifically formulated to be enameled. Do you purchase it from an
enamel supplier?
