I routinely make concave and convex curved cuts with radii as small
as 2 mm. with the Hawk saw. I recently finished a pierced horse head
overlay (20 ga.) and the horse’s eye was 1.5 mm. across with curved
and angular cuts. No filing was required!
In my opinion, it all boils down to the quality of your equipment,
correct blade selection and operator skill. The $1,200 ROI for the
saw was recouped in the first year’s use in time saved over sawing
by hand ($50-$70 hourly labor rate). I know of two other
silversmiths that are using Hawk saws profitably.
