Earwire formed from sheet

I am trying to make earrings in which the earwires are not
soldered on but made from the same sheet metal as the rest of the
earring. 

Laurel, a project of this nature is described in the June 2002 issue
of Lapidary Journal, pp. 42-44, by Rod McLean. (It does not involve
anticlastic raising.) I like the concept, although when I tried
something like it, I found the ear-wire part to be too thick –
perhaps I was too lazy to do the amount of filing needed to thin it
down (I do not have a draw-plate).
