Hi, all-
Actually, I don’t believe that propane is necessary for the
manufacture of doublee’. In a workshop in Tucson a year or so ago, I
watched Charles Lewton-Brain make doublee’ (sp?) with a prestolite
torch. In fact, the prestolite or other acetylene torch may have an
advantage- Mr. Lewton-Brain also demonstrated how one could hold the
torch, or alternatively mount a rubber washer on it, so as to limit
the air intake, thus producing a reducing flame which reduces
oxidization of the silver and consequently helps insure adherence of
the gold. – Lee Einer
