Difficulties cleanning tarnished silver

If you place a silver vase in your kitchen near your gas stove, it
will tarnish a golden brown in no time.

Steel shot (stainless or standard) is a GREAT way to give silver a
nice bright burnished surface. It not only shines, but burnishes
and compacts the surface, which increases resistance to future
tarnishing. There are limits as to just how bright it can get,
when compared to a buffed polish, but it's still good, and with the
right shot, can often get into details that a buff cannot reach. If
you have designs which trap the shot, so you have to spend time
picking it out again...

I use rare earth (neodymium) magnets that I buy from United Nuclear
http://unitednuclear.com to pull the shot from the jewelry. Most of
these magnets are NOT toys and should be kept from children.

Hi Norman,

If you have designs which trap the shot, so you have to spend time
picking it out again...

If the piece being tumbled is a chain, one way to get the shot out
of the chain is as follows.

Hold the chain about 18 inches above the bench & let it fall. It may
take several drops to get all the shot out of it.

This is a lot easier & less frustrating than trying to get the shot
out wit a tweezers.
