Different folks, different flux

Hello all,

What type of flux do you use and how do you apply it? Right now I
use some pinkish / red stuff from RioGrande, it seems to work pretty
good. I apply it with a mini-needle dispenser which though small can
be messy. I see in the bench tube videos, most of the pro’s use a
brush for the flux. Please comment if you’re able.

If the pinkish stuff is Magic Flame, that’s my favorite. You can mix
it with water or alcohol, and I like the latter. You have to swish it
around, but the alcohol just burns off and doesn’t cause things to
move out of position like water-based fluxes.

But I have half-a-dozen fluxes on hand. If the Goddess doesn’t like
one on a given day, maybe she’ll like another, or a combination.

I like to dip or spray. Or dip AND spray. On a bad soldering day,
I’ll dip in Magic Flame and alcohol, burn it off, then heat the piece
and spray on Cupronil or Firescoff or My-T-Flux.

I use Cupronil from Otto Frei as an firescale preventative and then
Batterns at the join applied with a needle dispenser. At school we
use Prips and Batterns.
